A couple of days back, Earth2 users got excited to see Shane seemingly approve his mugshot in an NFT which was a modified still from the Movie 300. The rights for the said (movie) are with Warner Bros.
Out of curiosity, one of the players actually wrote to Warner Bros. seeking their feedback whether it was ok to use the said still and alter it to be used as a digital asset, unfortunately, to which Warner Bros. responded that they reserve all the rights to the said image.
The said player then asked Shane on his Twitter handle that if it was ok to use some of his pixel-artwork as screenshots to be minted as NFT. And as requested, he would be glad to donate 20% of proceeds to the charity of Shane’s choosing.
The NFT space has definitely heated up, and it poses an important question on whether Earth2’s ToS, which currently claims all rights to anything on the website need to be updated. Many players especially artists within the Earth2 community with whom E2.news spoke to feel, “An updated ToS that is conducive to UGC (user-generated content) may help unleash creativity and increase investments”.
